Welcome to Southlands Christian Church
Glad you are visiting with us here. We hope you find a spiritual home with us, if you haven't already. Christians and church - like ducks and water! Sometimes the water has been unfriendly to ducks, but we want Southlands to be part of God's great ocean of love, not a place of murky religion and oily duties that muck up our feathers and rob us of the freedom to fly.
“ Life has no pleasure, higher or nobler, than that of friendship. ” — Samuel Johnson
The Kingdom
The Kingdom never comes alongside anything – it comes! It rises. It bursts forth, like the glorious day. It advances like the sun. It starts as a seed, but rises tall amongst all the other plants. It is wheat amongst the weeds; lilies amongst the thorns; sheep amongst wolves. It leads us boldly into worldly troubles, but promises us peace in the midst of them. It does not remove us from trials and temptations, but gives us grace and strength to overcome them. It does not immunize us from the cycles and humdrums, but provides a compelling, pearly reality that lives and beats and beckons us onwards and upwards. It comes without religious observation, yet brings real joy to sinners who seek God. It loves enemies and friends alike; it is good to all without finding fault; it is patient and kind; ethical and enduring; dramatically interested in the detail. It is real salt across the whole plate of food and real yeast amongst the whole batch of dough.
Why would we encourage you to come and visit us?
We preach the Word of God, we are experiencing the love of God, and we are determined to guard the freedom of every saint as they discover God's call on them in Jesus. The power of any church is not firstly in its programmes and activities, but in lives being transformed. The Bible says of the church: she is "the fullness of Him who fills everything in every way". Now that's what we are seeing more and more!
God is on his throne
So, our current venue got burned, badly burned. God is on his throne, and God shall not only comfort us, but restore us and take us beyond what we can ask or imagine. Anyway, the church is the people not the building that keeps the rain out. We have some wonderful promises from God, and He turns all things for the good of his people. God will handle our enemy and deliver us into all He has promised.
What about you?
Do you know the unfulfilled promises of God on your life and future? Have you given up on them and on yourself? Do you feel God has rejected you? We can't believe this, when we think that Jesus died for us "while we were his enemies"! Yet there is hope! Maybe you should stop reaching inside yourself and your abilities, come to the end of your rope, and fling yourself on God - again? "Is there anything too hard for the Lord?". It remains FOREVER a rhetorical question! Israel failed to inherit all that was promised, only because they did not mix the promises of God with FAITH. They gave way to fear, to grumbling, to submitting themselves to other idols who promised deliverance. The only thing idols give us is death and destruction, once the sugar-coating is sucked off.
The only thing that counts
The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. The love of God has already been poured out - you and I cannot change that just because we can't see it. What we need is faith. Maybe here in Southlands you can find faith. God has everything we possibly need, and a wonderful inheritance for us all "in the saints". He has healing, He has deliverance, He has provisions, He has all we need for life and godliness.
Whatever your journey, may you know peace and joy. God bless you, and bless you amazingly.
Nick, Damien and Terry
